Course Instructors
Dr. Dick Elgin, PLS, PE, works for Archer-Elgin Engineering, Surveying & Architecture (Rolla). He authored “The U.S. Public Land Survey System for Missouri” and “Riparian Boundaries for Missouri”. Mike Flowers, PLS, is the former Missouri State Land Surveyor. He is a former member of the Missouri Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Surveyors and Landscape Architects.
Dr. Joseph Paiva, PLS, is a geomatics and business development expert and a former university educator, who is now CEO and Principal of GeoLearn (www.geo-learn.com), an online education company specializing in courses for professionals and technicians in the geospatial industry.
All are well known surveying professionals. Joe Paiva helped found the Review Course and for years all three have previously taught parts of it.
Location and Lodging
A block of rooms has been reserved at Best Western Capital Inn in Jefferson City, MO, at a rate of $104.39 plus taxes for single king/double queen occupancy and includes a full hot breakfast each morning. Make your reservations by calling 573-635-4175 and refer to the “Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors” rate when reserving your room. DEADLINE FOR HOTEL RESERVATIONS IS AUGUST 8, 2022.
Continuing Education
The Surveyor’s Review Course is appropriate for those who will be taking any part of the surveying licensing exams, or for those already licensed and wish to review surveying topics and receive PDUs.
The course has been approved for continuing education credits from the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors and Landscape Architects for the following hours:
- Monday — 4.0 PDUs
- Tuesday — 8.5 PDUs
- Wednesday — 6.5 PDUs
Note: If you are currently licensed in Missouri, all 6.5 PDU’s on Wednesday are applicable for the 2 hour PDU requirement for license renewal per 20 CSR 2030-8.020 (Missouri Standards and Statutes).
Additional Virtual Registration Information
The in-person Wednesday portion of the program will be available virtually. The content will be live web streamed from the classroom at the hotel.
The Wednesday topics will be taught by Mike Flowers and Dr. Dick Elgin. The schedule to be followed will be 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. There will be a break for lunch as well as a short morning refreshment break.
Handouts: For virtual attendees, handouts will be distributed via email, unless you are in-person Monday or Tuesday.
Registration/Fees: To attend Wednesday virtually, indicate “Virtual Wednesday” on the course registration form. Rates for Wednesday vary for members and non-members and there will be an additional $100.00 charge to attend virtually.
Recording Availability: The Missouri Practice Session will NOT be available at any time as a recording
Seating Policy: Monday and Tuesday programs are only available in-person. MSPS will monitor social distancing protocols, but the classroom size is limited so early registration is recommended.
System Requirements: To be able to participate virtually, you will log in and register for the webinar with a link provided by MSPS prior to start of the session; then connect to the link provided during the webinar registration process. Your device must have a reliable Internet connection to insure no disruptions. MSPS does not take responsibility for inadequate service or outages. We recommend having 20 Mbps internet speed; this is a safety factor. Actual demand from the system will only be around 5-7 Mbps.
Cancellation Policy for the Virtual Event: If we do not get sufficient virtual registrations, we will cancel and notify you on August 8, 2022. In the event that the virtual option is cancelled and space is available, we will allow you to attend in-person. If you are unable to be in Jefferson City that day, or if there is no room left, a refund will be issued to you.
Cancellation Policy
MSPS reserve the right to cancel the program and return all fees in the event of insufficient registration. A participant may cancel a registration up to two weeks before the course date and receive a full refund, minus a $25.00 service charge.
NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN AFTER AUGUST 8, 2022. (Exception: See policy below on Virtual Wednesday.)
